Fifty Dollar Gift Certificate to Freehold Mall to Be Drawn... You Can Be the Winner!!!

Listen to this! Tell us how school's going so far for you (in as much detail as possible) and be entered into a raffle to win a fifty dollar gift certificate to Freehold Raceway Mall. (or store of your choice - to be used to buy tznius clothing of course!) It's as easy as that!
Every comment here entitles you to one entry. Every response to someone else's comment entitles you to two entries and every comment where you share a spiritual thought with us (that you learned or thought about or grew in or are struggling with) entitles you to three entries.
Raffle will be drawn on Thursday, November 1st, iy"H.
Winner will be announced on our blog and will be mailed the certificate.
You can share anything you'd like with us in your comment, as long as it's appropriate (of course it will be, coming from my girls!)
I will submit the raffle entries based on your comments.
Post any questions here and I will answer them as soon as I can...
Have a great day and good luck getting back to school tomorrow!

hey everyone, i hope your first day back wasnt so difficult. My day was ok, it was very long though =]
So anyways, i just want to share sumthing that i learned today in school with you guys..
My teacher was teaching us that When Bnei Yisroel recieved the Torah from Hashem at Har Sinai, Bnei Yisroel saw that the Malachim had flags that represented unity. It showed that the Malachim were all one. As soon as Bnei Yisroel saw this, they told Hashem that they also wanted flags to make a division in Klal Yisroel. This only works when the goal is to seve Hashem. Hashem gave Bnei Yisroel flags and because of this, there was unity within Klal Yisroel. When we understand that everyone is different we wont be jealous of anybody else and there too will be unity amongst Bnei Yisroel.

have a great night everybody

Not much to tell about school, but here goes:
Well, I've tried to work toward getting my GED (General Equivalency Diploma or something like that). It sucks, but I have to wait until I'm 16 to take it, so that's like two years. I figure I'll be ready for it once I go through all the pretests (just tests in the book where you answer questions and for the ones you got wrong, you go through some pages and understand whatever it is) and get all the questions right, I'll be ready to take it.
The GED book my brother has covers everything; Language Arts and Math and Science and all that. It'll help me know that I'm on the same level as my peers, or maybe even ahead.
About Hebrew... Well, I'm not so proud of what I've been doing - or rather, lack of what I've been doing - but we have a few interesting books on the prophets, but for some reason one of the books covered Dovid HaMelech even though he's not a prophet. That was really interesting, though. So I've been reading those.
My mom made a suggestion - to write down all the names of the books I remember I've read, that I've taken out of the library (from Oliver Twist to Teens Under the Influence to Sweet 16), so that can help me realize that yes, I AM learning Health and Social Studies and... um... History, I guess. And hopefully other stuff, except that The Good Earth wouldn't exactly fall under Math. (Ex.: Teens Under The Influence is about teens doing drugs and drinking and signs and how parents can help their kids, so that would fall under Health and Social Studies).
I'm planning on volunteering at the public library, so I guess you could call that a part of school, although what part I am totally clueless.
I'm very interested in sociology, which would explain getting out books like Teens Under The Influence and Teens and Divorce and a book that I got a while ago and unfortunately have forgotten the title for, but was about how girls are cheated in school, especially coed. I am so not planning on being a psychiatrist or counselor, though.
Due to the fact that I wholeheartedly agreed with everything the latter book said, my brother has decided that I am completely brainwashed and feminisim sucks.
Oh well.

So that's my school thing. Sorry it was so long.

hey everyone, i hope you all had a great day today.. even though it was raining.

I learned this really nice thing today..
That Hashem creates each one of us diffferently in order for us to complete our "mission" here on earth. That means that we were each given different personalities, different families, different situation etc.. so we can each accomplish our mission. every single thing that we were given, was given to us to help us here on earth.
-i hope u enjoyed it.. sorry if it was lonng..
-have a great night..
- i miss u all <3

Unknown said...

It's really annoying, though, when I have no idea what in the world my missions are and whether or not G-d actually wants me to have a digital camera, or that simply isn't for my mission in life. But if I plan on being a photographer, and I love taking pictures, how in the world am I going to cope without one?

Hi everyone.. how u had a great day today..
sorry tova, i dont really know the answer to that

Im just going to share something shorrt with you guys that i learned today in Torah Sheee Baal Peh..
Were learning about loving a fello jew just like u love yourself.
But what does love really mean?
Love is an emotion.
so how are we supose to know how to love someone else like ourself?
in the word AHAVA, the root of the word is HAV, which means to give. So that means that in order to love someone you need to give. soo.. giving = love.
The more you give to someone, the more love you have towards them. Its like a parent and a child -> After so many years of the parents giving so much to a child, the parents love the chid much more than the child loves the parent because the parent gave much more.
-- hope you enjoyed it as much as i did.. have a great nightt <3

Hi Morahhh! I havn't been posting much on
the blog but i got your note that you gave my father and i couldn't not.

Highschool is amazing - it's like
a whole nother world. It's no
walk in a park, and it wasn't a shock
b\c i didn't expect it to be,
but im still absolutely loving it.

Right before my succot vacation,
my Chumash teacher (who's probably
one of th most holy people i've
ever met), gave us a speech on galut.
It was right by the time when
Ahmadinejad was in th U.S.
She was telling us about how lucky we are to
live in a country where we can openly
practice our religion, and that we
don't understand what a freedom it
honestly is.
Hence, we start to feel "comfortable in galut".
In essence, we're telling
ourselves - "galut isn't really all that bad..."
Therefore, we sometimes need
reminders about how unpleasant
galut really is, and Hashem is
forced to bring about people
like Mahmud Ahmadinejad.
We start to lose our realization of the fact
that the only time we'll ever
truly be comfortable is when
Mashiach comes, and e\o recognizes
Hashem and that He is in control of absolutely
e\th.

We live in a world where there is
immorality right and left.
In the movies you hear about
some man who had an affair
w\ some lady. And thats
entertainment... ? Um.. hi.... that’s giluy
arayot…
your chiyav misahh....

First of all, Chumash is
soooo hard. But i honestly
enjoy it so it subtracts from the
difficulty. And i love love love
love love my Chumash teacher.

School has become my 2nd home...
i'm there 8 am - 7 pm, i eat there, sleep there.. i mean..
diligently take notes... hahah.
It takes some adjusting
but its so easy to make friends
and once you become accustomed
to the way e\th is run, its
really enjoyable.

Just one more thing –
on my bus,
2 girls were talking.
(Haha, i don't eavesdrop,
but you had to talk loud 2 be able
to hear eachother over the rain and it was
hard not to be able to hear eachother’s
conversations).
One girl was telling the other
why she doesn't wear pants.
So she tells her...

"After 120, when i go 2 shamayim,
Hashem will ask me - 'Why didn't
you keep my laws?' and what will
i be forced to tell Him, 'B\c i
didn't want to????' What kind of
answer would that be?"

And I was so moved.
I started to think about what
she said and how when we give a
din v'cheshbon and we have to
explain our reasoning for
straying from the derech, and
how can we defend ourselves?
"Hashem, i didn't feel like
saying a bracha." "I wasn't in
the mood to daven..."
If you think about it, its actually
kind of scary.

I’m having an amazing time at Bruriah,
I hope everyone is having a great year too!!
Call me if u ever want 2 talk or get together!!!
I may not pick up which is something
Im unfortunately known for, but I will
definitely bli neder try and call you back.

Have a great shabbat I miss you all so muchhh!,
Much Love,
<3 Ella

Shoshi, thanx for the good Shabbos wishes! That's so cute that Jesse and Daniella visited Shalom on Friday, and that you saw them! Shalom truly is our home away from home, wouldn't you say?
And wow, Ella!!!!
How absolutely amazing hearing from you!!! And how great you sound! You can't imagine how much i appreciate you sharing those BEAUTIFUL thoughts with us. It gives me more nachas than u can ever begin to imagine. Who is this awesome Chumash teacher of yours? And that conversation on the bus is incredibly inspiring! Keep 'em coming!!!

Hey Morah Greenes! I haven't spoken to you in along time. I really
like this Raffle thing, it makes me think of what I actually learn in
school, and if I actually learn from it. What I'm going to say is
something I actually heard today.

Normally on a Tuesday afternoon all 9th & 10th graders have Halacha.
But since our teacher had a baby, we always have frees. Today was the
first time we actually have one of the Rabbi's come in and tells us
something. I mean there's always a teach or a rabbi but they let us do
whatever we
want. Rabbi told us a story.
He said that when he was younger and in elementary school he wasn't
the best kid. Not meaning bad, just meaning a troublemaker ina good
way. One day during his class his teacher wasn't in the best of moods.
The class on the other had wasn't the best either. The teacher tried
so hard to get the class to pay attention, stop talking,? and do what
they were supposed but the class just didn't simmer down. when he did
finally get the class quiet our teacher took? a textbook in each hand
and slammed it on two desks, one on each. the teacher walk out of the
classroom and marched into the principles office and quit because of
our teacher. when that happen all he did was think how great he was he
was able to make his teacher quit. Then when our teacher was in 11th
grade he looked up his old teachers address and when up to the door
and knock on it. it took a few moments for his teacher to remember who
he was but once he did out teacher asked for forgiveness and this what
the teacher said " up until now I only thought of how rude and mean
and harsh and disrespectful religious Jews were because of what you
did to me in class that day. But by you remembering what you and then
coming and asking for forgiveness, that says alot, you made me think
of something so different." what our teacher said at the end of his
story was even if you don't like a person, don't make the person feel
bad enough to quit his job or leave the school or even to stop doing
what they like. Bye just being pleasant you can change a whole outlook
on something or someone. But it also has the same effect oppositely.
so?I learned from this that it's important to just be civil with a
fellow person to keep the outlook and thoughts positive about oneself
and others.

hey everyone, i hope you week started out great.. i just want to share with you something small that i learned today that I really enjoyed...

So we were learning about how this year is a shmita year and in a shmita year, all Jewish farmers in Israels have to leave their crops alone for a year.
A year is a very long time. Especially when your a farmer and thats what you do for a living in order to make money.
So my teacher was telling u that we learn so much from these farmers that follow the halachos of shmita and stop working the land for an entire year.
One thing we learn is how much trust these farmers have in Hashem. These farmers trust Hashem 100%.
.. In return, Hashem tells the farmers that He will suport them for the year.. no matter what that means,(its hard for us to understand that) they will have food for their family that year.
I just thought that this is amazing.. how much they trust Hashem.. that they wont work for a whole year.

-Have a great night everyone.
i miss you all very much!

You're right, Ella, I do know a lot of Goldsteins but I'd love to know if any of them is ur amazing teacher! Can you find out her maiden name for me? Thanks =)
And Shoshi, that's beautiful! We never quite think of shmittah that way, but ur right, would we stop working for a full year and totally trust in Hashem? It is quite amazing. By the way, girls, I shared with Rabbi Freedman how much nachas you're all giving me by writing ur beautiful comments. He was so proud and he asked me to print out the comments for him to see. I hope ur all okay with that. We're just so proud of you... let me know if u'd rather i not print them out though, ok?

Wow, I cant believe that theirs only 5 girls in 6-8 grade. Shalom did change lol..

Hi everyone,
I hope you all had a great day!
Today we had our sophmore brunch.. It was alot of fun! We first had an amazing speach from Mrs.Kaisman. It was about how talents and other things that we have can either be good for our neshama or bad. Like, If someones very pretty they should use that to show people about Tznius, and if you dont think your so preety, than you hae to understand that looks arent everything and we dont take our looks with us to Shamiyim. .. It was an amazing speech.

And I also have something else to share..

So today during history we had to present a drawing that we made about the colonies. And since im a really bad at drawing, I was really self consious about it. So when I went to present i, I started cracking up and i told my class that its really really bad. So then my teacher took my paper and said, even if you dont like your drawing, you sould never feel self consious about it.. you should always be proud of what you make.

(that one actually connects to the first one a little)

have a great night everyone..
oh by the way.. im taking the PSAT's tomorw.. lol

thank you shosh, first of all for sharing those incredibly uplifting and inspiring thoughts - somehow we forget that our looks are going to fade, and that it won't help us up there unless we use it for Hashem. well said! ur rlly lucky to be going to such an incredible school. and thanks so so much for ur birthday wishes. i did have a great day, b"H - just got back from a bday party my friends made, it was so special and fun, b"H.
i miss u tons too!!!

tova-
b\c it's s\th you made
and should feel accomplished
about evn though it didnt
come out perfect...

and who cares if it "sucks"
just b\c you're not the best
artist, you can't draw????

and anyway - thinking
s\th is pretty or not is an
opinion, and you cant make
it s\th factual - so what if shoshi
honestly believes her history
project wasn't the best, but
i liked it a lot?

In Navi, my teacher (who as well as my chumash teacher, i adoreee!!!)
will teach us
inside, and then give us musar
haskel, where we look
at whatt happened to who and how
we're in some way guilty of the same thing.

So, today she taught us about
why Achaziah (a terrible king
who completelyy denied Hashem)
deserved to die in such an
embarassing way (falling and getting sick from it...)

But there's a phrase that's
repeated numerous times
throughout Melachim Beis
perek alef: "hamabli ein elokim
b'yisrael??"
Achaziah completely denied Hashem
and it was escpecially
taken against him b\c he
had seen so many open miracles.

So before Achaziah died - he was
very sick, and in a lot of
pain. he sent messangers to
ask the "baal zvuv" (an avoda zara
that was thought to have the
ability to predict life and death) wether or not he would die.
Eliahu haNavi intercepted
them and Achaziah kept sending
more messangers (2 out of th
4 sets of messangers are killed
b\c of their chutzpahh to a Navi
Hashem - which is basically like
being chutzpah to Hashem Himself).

"Hamabli ein elokim b'yisrael"
was told by Eliyahu HaNavi to
Achaziah's messangers.
The reason its repeated (3x)
is b\c it was such a grave
averahh.

The musar haskel she taught us on
this is how we sometimes
"deny Hashem" too.
Not as blatantly as Achaziah did,
and it's not like we do
avoda zarah - but we're still
in a way guilty of it.

When we rely on things like:
- Our money
- Doctors
- The gov/police
- Lawyers
for our problems - lik if we chalila
get sick, or are in distress in
any way, and we don't realize
that these ppl are only
a shaliach from Hashem, and it truly
all comes from Him.

Another musar haskel i learned
was about the messangers dying b\c
of their chutzpah to a Navi Hashem.
(.... and how we're also in
some way guilty of this averahh....)

In our days, rebbeim and gadolim
are our "Navei Hashem"
and when we refer to a rabbi as
"Rabbi" or.. "Rabbi O" (< one of my
rabbi's last initial) than we're
being chutzpah to Hashem Himself.
As well as when a student blatantly
disagrees and argues w\ a rav -
it's taken against him.

Have an amazing Shabbat guyss!!!,
Ella. =))

Shoshi-
Referring back to your
first post,
how come if we realize that we're
all different - we don't
get jealous? shouldn't
it work oppositely?

Anonymous said...

I just realized i lied...
im in schul 8 am - 5:30ishh.
i got mixed up b\c i gett home 7...

Anonymous said...

I never realized how much
inspirational content is in what
i learn....
haha.

I was studying Chumash for my test
Tuesday.

In one of the pasukim it writes
"k'chaluto" - "when he finished" w\o a 'vuv'. Rashi explains that its b\c you can also read it as "kalah" - "bride", b\c the Torah
is like a bride and Bnei Yisrael
is the chatan. (Where the bride is
a present for the groom).

Or, b\c when Moshe was in shamayim,
he had 40 days to learn E\TH there
is to know about the Torah.
And whenever Hashem taught Moshe
s\th hed forget it.
After the 40 days were up, Moshe
tells Hashem, "The 40th day has
come and I haven't learned anything".
So Hashem gives Moshe a gift (kalah)
of knowledge - and makes him know
e\th.
But then we're faced with the
ques: why would Hashem teach him
for 40 days if he made him know
e\th in the end anwyway?

And its b\c - since Moshe wanted it
SO badly, he worked SO hard for
those 40 days to try and know it
all and he didn't get frustrated
and still didn't get it, b\c of
those 40 days of Moshe working
very hard on understanding
what Hashem was teaching, he was
deserving of knowing it. He needed
those 40 days of hard work in order
to be zoche - deserving, of
recieving siyata d'shmaya
(the help of Hashem).

It works the same for us. If we
work exteremely hard and trying
to understand s\th, and don't get
frustrated - we will merit siyata d'shmaya.

=)

this week in Bruriah we had a Tznius Fashion show.
It was a blast..
we had a speaker, Mrs. Monsoar and it was amazing..this is what she said that really made an impact on me..
She said that we your in the store trying a skirt or a shirt on and its just a little to tight or it doesnt really covers your knees when your sitting.. and while your doing that...
In shamayim this is whats happening..
All of the Malachim are sitting on bleachers with there pom poms cheering for you! And as your deciding if you should buy it or not, the malachim are saying to you, come on you can do it, come on u can do it! and when you decide not to buy it, the malachim are having a party and cheering for you.. literally!

~~~
I have this mental image that a ton of angels in white dresses with wings - you know, the stereotypical angel - are sitting on bleachers, with, like, red and blue pompoms, and cheering like crazy and yelling "YOU CAN DO IT!" and "COME ON!" and stuff and some are jumping up and down... Like people at a basketball game or something. :)
